Junie and I stayed at the house from January through March 2020 while she received daily proton radiation for Rhabdomyosarcoma. During such a challenging time, having a supportive place to stay meant absolutely everything to our family. The house gave us not just a place to land but a true sanctuary. In “The House That Love Built”, Junie was able to rest and play and recover and heal and even make friends during this difficult treatment. Dad and siblings were able to visit and stay with us every weekend for play time, lovely family meals, fun outings, relaxing movie nights, and lots of special snuggles. I especially treasure the memory of seeing all my kids delight in watching the dolphins together at the National Aquarium, as they were Junie’s favorite. 

We are so grateful for the care and comfort the house provided us during those months. Because of the safe and happy space, the kind faces and helpful voices, we were able to make cherished memories during those months rather than giving in to fear and despair.

In late November of that year we lost our sweet June, but we will never lose the precious time we were able to spend with her at Ronald McDonald House Maryland. Now we Shuffle for all the kids and families who infuse the house with love, and we honor and celebrate our Junie every year with this event. We look forward to cheering on the kids and families and will be remembering our June with love at the Red Shoe Shuffle.
