Provide a Meal: Love Served Daily

Our meal program makes life easier for families who stay at our house and is a wonderful way to give back while being able to connect with families that stay at the house and put a smile on their faces. 

Love Served Daily volunteers plan the menu, shop for ingredients, and then prepare and serve a delicious meal in our kitchenThis is a group volunteer opportunity.

You must be at least 14 years old (and accompanied by an adult). To ensure food safety, all meals must be prepared on site or come directly from a commercial (restaurant) kitchen.

Activity Hour

Organize a fun night for our kids while providing a night of relaxation for our parents. 

Think of the kinds of things you, your family, and friends like to do together in your spare time and come share this with our guest families. This is an individual or group volunteer opportunity.

Time Commitment: Activity hour is held daily from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The day you wish to sign up is flexible!

Duties Include: Organize a night of crafts, games, or anything to keep the little ones busy so our parents can enjoy some relaxation!

Weekly Volunteers

For a weekly volunteer opportunity, we ask for a once-a-week commitment for a minimum of 6 months. An interview and training session are required for both opportunities. Must be at least 18 years old.

Kitchen Concierge

Ronald McDonald House Maryland needs several active volunteers to serve as breakfast and/or dinner hosts in order to keep our kitchen operating smoothly.

Our kitchen is the heart of the house. With 55 families and countless volunteer groups utilizing the kitchen, it requires constant upkeep. We want to ensure the kitchen is a clean, inviting, and usable space for the families. Must be at least 18 years old.

*Please note: Interviews and training sessions are required.

  • Greeting volunteer groups upon arrival.
  • Orient groups to the kitchen, helping them find supplies, ensuring they receive house tour, etc.
  • Ensure groups keep the kitchen clean and organized
    • Dishes are put away
    • Leftover food is properly labeled
    • Kitchen towels are washed
    • Messes are cleaned up
    • Refrigerators are organized
  • Friendly, compassionate, and dependable.
  • Enjoys interacting with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Committed to maintaining confidentiality and treating every guest with dignity and respect

Once a week from 5 – 7pm.

This is a 6-month minimum commitment.

We’re currently looking for volunteers for breakfast and Friday evenings and to serve as backup during the summer on various nights.

Early Bird Volunteer

Volunteer should arrive by 7am.

The Early Bird Volunteer helps create a warm, welcoming, and comforting start to the day for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House Maryland & helps ensure every family begins their day with a hot cup of coffee, a welcoming smile, and the support they need.

  • Prepare fresh coffee and hot water for guests and visitors.
  • Ensure the coffee station is clean, stocked, and welcoming throughout the morning.
  • Greet guest families with a warm and friendly demeanor.
  • Assist families with basic questions, directions, and house information, referring more complex needs to staff when appropriate.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of common areas, including the kitchen, dining room, and Guest Services Welcome Center.
  • Help create a calm, caring, and hospitable environment for all guests.
  • Notify staff of any maintenance, safety, or guest concerns.
  • Ensuring that the dishes as clean in the dishwasher.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks as assigned to ensure the house is ready for the day.
  • Friendly, compassionate, and dependable.
  • Enjoys interacting with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Committed to maintaining confidentiality and treating every guest with dignity and respect

Saturday Shuttle Driver

Do you like driving? Do you want to drive a bright colorful bus? Do you want to get to know our families? If you answered “yes!” to any of the above to, then this is the volunteer opportunity for you! 

One Saturday per month (pre determined) from 10:00am-2:00pm, drive Ronald McDonald House Maryland families to the Inner Harbor and Canton Crossing Shopping Center. From running errands to visiting the Aquarium, you can help these families enjoy their weekend!

  • One Saturday per month (pre-determined) from 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • 6-month minimum commitment and you must provide documentation of a clean driving record and pass an annual drug screening in order to be a driver.

Handy Helper

Our house needs active, skilled maintenance volunteers (or semi-skilled, but with a lot of heart!) willing to tackle a variety of odd jobs and lend a hand where needed.

Projects may include painting, drywall repair or light carpentry. This is an individual volunteer opportunity and perfect for retirees looking to stay active.

Handy Helpers can select a time to work at the house on Monday – Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Other Ways to Help

Putting together a bag or a kit for a child or their family is an easy way to put a smile on their face or make their day a little easier. We have several types of care items to prepare in the comfort of your home or assemble at Ronald McDonald House Maryland. This is an individual or a group volunteer opportunity and can be done off-site. Gather a group of coworkers for a fun team building exercise, or have the kids help you at home!

Cubby Stuffers

It’s such a wonderful treat for the families to see their cubbies filled with goodies when they come back from the hospital—it really brightens their day!  Be creative. Think of something you would like to receive or something you would want to send to a loved one. Here are some examples of great cubby stuffers:

Handmade Gifts

If you’re feeling crafty, make stuffed animals, picture frames, greeting cards or any other creations to brighten up our families’ day.

Small Gifts

Individually wrapped snacks or toiletries always make a great gift!

Snack Bags

Fill gift / lunch bags with water, juice boxes, chips, fruit snacks, granola bars or other non-perishable food items. Families can take these with them to the hospitals for a mid-day treat!

Child Activity Bags

Fill gift / lunch bags with crayons, washable markers, activity pads, coloring books or other fun activities.

Adult Goody Bags

Fill gift/lunch bags with pens, pencils, paper, note cards, crossword or other puzzle books, or other gifts just for parents.

Write notes of encouragement to the families and children staying at the Ronald McDonald House Maryland. Please refrain from using religious messaging. Thank you!

Please keep in mind that all goodies must be new. We encourage volunteers to bring enough items to stuff 55 cubbies. (Currently, we are asking for a maximum of 55 Cubby Stuffers).

Comfort Kits

Comfort kits include items like towel sets, bath robes, slippers, or any other items that would make you feel cozy and cared for! This can be an onsite or offsite opportunity! We accept drop offs every day of the week between 8am and 8pm.This is an individual or group volunteer opportunity.

Current Need: We are asking for a maximum of 55 Comfort Kits.

Idea #1

Wrap a new towel set (bath towel, hand towel, face cloth) in a ribbon or a gift bag. Include a note of encouragement. Preferably the towels are all white and good quality!

Idea #2

Wrap a new bath robe with slippers in a ribbon or gift bag. Include a note of encouragement.

Idea #3

For winter, wrap a hat and gloves or mittens in a ribbon on gift bag. Include a note of encouragement.

Idea #4

Make a ‘Goody Bag’ with a variety of candies, gum, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, mints, playing cards, crossword puzzles, pens, etc. Package items neatly and include a note of encouragement.

NICU Bonding Hearts

One heart is worn by the parent against their skin to absorb their scent, and the other is placed with the baby. The hearts are then regularly swapped between the parent and baby to maintain the scent connection during separation, providing comfort and aiding in the parent-child bonding process.

Current need: We are asking for a maximum of 25 bonding hearts

  1. Make a heart-shaped template, about 7.5” sq.
  2. Use the template to cut 4 hearts out of the same pattern flannel.
  3. Place the right sides of 2 hearts together and sew around the edge with a ¼ inch seam, leaving a 2” inch opening on the lower side.
  4. Repeat step 3 to sew together the second heart.
  5. Turn the hearts right side out and gently iron flat.
  6. Top stitch around the edges of each heart.
  7. Roll each pair of finished hearts and tie with a ribbon.
  8. Place in a ziplog bag with printed instructions for parent and baby to each “wear” the hearts for at least an hour before swapping.

This is an offsite opportunity! We accept drop-offs everyday of the week between 8am and 8pm.

Blankets of Love

All blankets are handmade with a personal note from the volunteer who made it. Blankets of Love measure 50″ by 60″ and you can purchase kits that contain premeasured fabric and a pattern. Check out yourfleece.com for price information. This is an individual or group volunteer opportunity.

Toiletry Kits

To prepare a kit, please use the following guidelines: Kits should be neatly placed in a Ziploc bag! You can include a handwritten note to attach to the bag. Children’s handwriting is also welcomed.

Examples: “Someone Cares for You” or use encouraging words, such as: “Hope” or “Peace.”

  • Priority Contents for toiletry kits are (travel sizes only): Shampoo, Conditioner, Lotion, Bath Soap
  • Additional Contents: Mouthwash, Toothbrush/ Toothpaste/Floss, Razor and Shaving Cream, Deodorant, etc.

Current Need: We are asking for a maximum of 55 Toiletry Kits.

This can be an onsite or offsite opportunity! We accept drop offs every day of the week between 8am and 8pm.

Volun-teen Program

The following opportunities are suggested for teenagers in need of scholastic community service or volunteer hours. Students are welcome to volunteer individually or as part of a group.
